It's an exciting day today as I picked up the latest issue of Knit Now Magazine, which has my Beirt Beret & Cowl in it. (I have no idea why it has uploaded sideways, I've tried to change it but here we are🤷🏻‍♀️) I'm so happy to finally share this design - I wrote the pattern and knit the sample last summer, so it has felt like a long wait! Believe it or not, it's a one skein knit, using just one ball of beautiful wool for both makes. The yarn (supplied by John Arbon Textiles) is a 4 ply wool, which has 400m in one 100g skein. The shade pictured is Woad. You might have seen this zig-zag motif before in some patterns of mine - I love the parallel zig-zags of this traditional Aran motif. In Aran knitting, they symbolise two people navigating the ups and downs of life together. I created the Beirt Beanie using this motif, and it was very rewarding to rework it in quite different shaping for the beret.
